This authentic Suzani textile was originally handcrafted as part of a bridal dowry in the Amu Darya region of Central Asia. It was embroidered by a young woman born and raised in Uzbekistan, following a centuries-old tradition passed down through generations.
We carefully sourced this piece in TĂĽrkiye from a warm and welcoming Uzbek family who immigrated to TĂĽrkiye decades ago, preserving their cultural textile heritage.
Suzani textiles are deeply symbolic. Traditionally prepared for weddings, they were presented to the groom’s family as a sign of unity between two families. The word Suzani comes from the Persian word for “needle,” reflecting its identity as a true needlework art form.
 Symbolism & Meaning
Suzanis are adorned with meaningful motifs such as:
* Medallions, sun and moon symbols
* Floral elements like tulips, carnations, daisies and pomegranates
* Vines and leaves
* Birds, fishes and other animal figures
These motifs traditionally represent luck, protection, fertility, long life, happiness, and strength.
Craftsmanship
The base fabric is typically cotton, velvet, satin, or occasionally silk, embroidered with silk or cotton threads.
The design is first hand-drawn onto the fabric, then carefully stitched using traditional techniques such as:
* Chain stitch
* Satin stitch
* Buttonhole stitch
Many vintage Suzanis were created in separate panels during tribal journeys, because of the narrow width of traditional looms and nomadic life and later stitched together to form a complete textile, which gives them their unique, authentic character.
Some pieces may show minor age-related marks, pen guidelines, or older Soviet-era fabric backing — all natural signs of authenticity in genuine vintage Suzani textiles.
Most of our Suzani pieces range between approximately 30 to 80 years old, and each one is completely One of a Kind — a true example of embroidered tribal art.
